Jennie is a divine spirit having a human experience with a personal history of perseverance and recovery. A mother, and a resilient warrior, she came to yoga in the late 90s out of a place of grounding and healing from a violent sexual assault. It would take some time, though, before she learned that yoga was more than simply moving the body; it can still the mind. Jennie discovered her circumstances led her directly to a healing based upon a deep spiritual journey. Over the course of her life, it seems those circumstances came in steady waves: multiple sexual assaults, domestic violence, addiction, and stroke with paralysis. But, each layer of these circumstances deepened her spiritual practice.
Jennie spent decades living in fight and flight, with chronic symptoms of C-PTSD altering her body and mind, never understanding that what she was experiencing was a very real and science based response in her body. When she began to dive into both spirituality and science, her new world began to unfold. She quickly realized she is a survivor of so much as we all inherently are. She has learned – and continues to learn - that there is beauty in healing and in letting go of who she was and opening up to who she is in the present. Through her healing she has learned to love herself. She has learned how the body stores and responds to trauma, and has developed ways to sense and remove energetic blockages. She doesn’t believe in positive and negative energy. She believes that there is moving and stagnant energy, and that when we consciously begin to allow our energy to flow and to connect with the greatest energy of all, love, we can heal. She learned that by using movement, meditation, art, music and so much more, we can send the body into healing from the inside out.
Jennie’s passion for healing, service and recovery led her to open Rooted Yoga & Wellness Studio in Haddon Heights, NJ, in early 2020. The studio offers trauma and recovery focused classes, energetic healing, therapeutic massage, hypnosis and more. The more she connected with other survivors and those active in recovery, the more she realized the deep need to affirm through neuroscience that our biological responses are normal, but do not need to be the norm. She breaks down trauma and the brain into digestible and understandable content. She gives tips for individuals to be able to navigate relationships and conversions when they may be in the midst of panic or anxiety. She talks about why talk therapy in the traditional sense can often do more harm for survivors. She shares ways to express emotions outside of traditional context. She shares her story of hope and recovery, and opens you up to a world where healing is possible. Healing begins simply by honoring our breath. We then plant roots as firm as the trees, believing that we can, right here, right now, re-root and rise. Her daily is reminder is: If I’ve been through everything I’ve been through and I’m still here, I’m still alive, I’m talking to you—that means I can survive.
